My husband and I just got back from Colorado. We decided to stop for a night to check out the Aspen ski scene, as we had never been.
The town of Aspen butts up against Aspen Mountain, with a compact few blocks of shops and restaurants, bordered by lots of parks and walking trails. It’s easy to explore on foot.
We stayed at the Sky Hotel, which is a Kimpton property. Kimpton hotels are renowned for their service and style with bold and playful designs, award winning dining and cool amenities.
The Sky Hotel is a boutique hotel located right at the base of the ski slopes of Aspen. There is funky décor throughout and a cool après ski scene. The pool and hot tub are heated year round to a steaming 87 degrees or more, making the hotel especially popular among the urban crowd. All are welcome here, so long as they are patrons of the Sky 39 Degrees Lounge, however if you are not a hotel guest, remember to bring a towel.
There are lots of kitschy details in the décor of the hotel, such as tall, Alice-in-Wonderland proportioned chairs in the lobby and cable-knit headboards, with felt pillows in the guest rooms, reminiscent of old-time ski apparel. We loved the unusual zebra and leopard print robes. Which one would you choose?
The Sky Hotel provides some fabulous amenities to make your stay complete such as flat-screen TVs, high-speed internet access, and plush linens. The fully stocked honor bar is a sight to behold (including bottled oxygen) and the guest rooms are pet friendly.
Room service is available for breakfast, lunch and dinner and there is free newspaper, morning coffee and tea service and twice daily housekeeping service. If you don’t have a coffee maker in your room when you arrive, just ask for a complimentary Kirsch model. There is an on-site cardio room with stationary bikes, treadmills and elliptical trainers available to guests 24 hours a day.
We really loved the modern and quirky hotel vibe and were impressed with its superb proximity to the slopes. It’s less than 250 yards to the lifts on Aspen Mountain. The hotel also provides a complimentary car service for a lift around town and bikes you can use for a couple of hours.
There is lots of great dining and shopping within walking distance. Also, you can walk to the peaceful John Denver Sanctuary and Natural Filter stream, as well as a spooky graveyard.
This is one of the best addresses for skiing in Aspen or even a beautiful spot to spend a couple of days, anytime of year.
