As a travel consultant and the Chief Romance Designer at Carefree Romantic Vacations, I’ve visited some of the most beautiful resorts around the world. But when it came to Mexico, my husband was skeptical—mostly due to safety concerns. After our stay at Hotel Xcaret Mexico, his opinion shifted. While he’s still unsure about Mexico as a whole, he absolutely loved this resort.

First Impressions: Tranquility Amidst Nature

From the moment we stepped onto the property, we were surrounded by lush landscapes blending seamlessly into the natural environment. Walking around that first evening, we admired the resort’s rivers, caves, and the beachfront with its turtle nesting site. The way Hotel Xcaret integrates modern luxury with the untouched beauty of the Riviera Maya is impressive.

But the true highlight of the evening was dinner. That night, we indulged in fresh guacamole—with a twist. It was served with Mexican crickets! I never thought I’d have the guts to try them, but I did. They weren’t bad—just a little salty. If you enjoy pushing your culinary boundaries, adventurous dining experiences like this can truly surprise you. I actually told the woman who made the guacamole that I didn’t want the crickets mixed in, but after she left, I found myself wishing I had said yes! Though I had a delicious steak as well, the crickets definitely got top billing at this meal.

Adventures at Xcaret Park: Nature, History, and Culture

One of the best perks of Hotel Xcaret Mexico is that it’s all-inclusive, including access to multiple eco-parks. On our second day, we headed to Xcaret Park, the centerpiece of the Xcaret eco-park system. (Everything here starts with an “X”—even their Xampoo, the Mayan word for shampoo!) The park highlights Mexico’s beauty and history, quickly becoming one of our trip’s highlights.

A visit to the Mayan Cemetery stood out for us. This multi-level, beautifully designed site celebrates life and death through vibrant architecture and decoration. My husband, who wasn’t initially thrilled with the idea of visiting Mexico, found the cultural depth on display surprisingly captivating.

Another unforgettable moment was swimming in the underground rivers. These natural channels flow through cave systems, leading swimmers from dark tunnels into lush tropical scenery. This adventure was thrilling, and along the way, we even spotted some Coati.

We also loved exploring the orchid garden and seeing the park’s majestic wild cats—one of my personal favorite moments. Our day wrapped up with an equestrian show during an included lunch, adding yet another layer to this immersive cultural experience.

Xenotes Tour: A Day of Exploration and Wonder

Another day, we opted for the Xenotes tour, another adventure included with our stay. This guided tour took us to visit several cenotes, each offering unique experiences. From ziplining into the water to kayaking through one surrounded by towering jungle trees, every stop felt like stepping into a new world. The well-organized tour included transportation and lunch, making it a stress-free and enriching day.

Luxurious Accommodations and a Travel Dilemma

Our suite at Hotel Xcaret Mexico felt like a sanctuary—an elegant mix of luxury and eco-conscious design. It was so inviting that we faced the ultimate travel dilemma: Should we spend the day enjoying the resort’s amenities, or head out to explore more of the parks? With pools, rivers, and gourmet restaurants on-site, it’s easy to relax all day at the resort. However, with so many parks and excursions included, exploring felt equally tempting.

In the end, we did a little of both. We spent lazy afternoons by the water and enjoyed the parks and tours. For anyone considering a stay, I recommend at least seven nights. This way, you’ll have time to experience both the resort and some of the eco-parks like Xcaret, Xplor, and Xel-Há, and still enjoy special tours like Xenotes without feeling rushed.

A New Adults-Only Escape: Hotel Xcaret Arte

If you’re seeking a more adult-focused experience, Hotel Xcaret Arte next door is an incredible option. This new, adults-only, all-inclusive resort celebrates Mexican art and culture. With 900 suites spread across five themed Casas—Casa de los Artistas, Casa de la Música, Casa de la Paz, Casa de la Pirámide, and Casa del Diseño—the resort honors the creativity of Mexico’s artists. For art and culture enthusiasts, Hotel Xcaret Arte offers a unique and luxurious escape.

A Lasting Impression

By the end of our stay, my husband, who had reservations about visiting Mexico, was genuinely impressed. The combination of safety, luxury, and rich cultural experiences at Hotel Xcaret Mexico changed his perception. Although he still has concerns about Mexico as a whole, his attitude toward this exceptional resort has softened.

If you’re hesitant about traveling to Mexico but are looking for luxury and immersion in nature and culture, Hotel Xcaret Mexico or Hotel Xcaret Arte is an excellent choice. It offers the perfect blend of comfort, adventure, and Mexico’s cultural heritage.
