Sandals LaSource Grenada

Two weeks ago my husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the all-inclusive, adults only Sandals LaSource Grenada for an adventurous week.  The resort is quite new, having just opening at the end of 2013.  Since our flight arrived late, we appreciated that the resort was just a few minutes away from the airport.

Sandals LaSource Grenada Lobby

The lobby is very open and inviting, and a cool breeze drifts through.  On arrival, we were greeted with cold towels and had champagne in Club Sandals while we checked in.  We were escorted to our room, given a quick orientation and settled in for the night.

Our Pink Gin Oceanfront Honeymoon Penthouse Club Level Room had a high, open beam ceiling, mahogany king bed, porcelain plank floors and a dual shower heads.  It had a large modern basin and a backlit mirror with marble vanity.  Our small balcony overlooked a main pool and the beach.

With a club level room, you’ll get personalized service, an upgraded mini-bar, room service from 7 AM to 10 PM and weekly hosted activities like cocktail parties, a martini evening, wine tasting, snorkeling and exclusive tours.

There are two main pools at the resort; the infinity edge pool that our room overlooked with the fire pit, close to the beach.  This is the quiet pool.  The other main pool is in the South Seas Village.  Here you’ll find the swim up bar, volleyball and a variety of lounging areas and cabanas.

South Seas Pool

There is an amazing variety of accommodations at this resort.  The Pink Gin Village rooms and suites are the more basic rooms, but they’re also the closest to the beach.  The Tahiti inspired South Seas Village has rooms that open to a river style pool, fed by a waterfall.  The top suites here are the one bedroom with a private pool, however my favorite are the round, thatched roofed Rondoval bungalows with private plunge pool and butler service.  The Italian Village has ground floor suites where you can swim out into a beautiful infinity edge, shared pool.  The upper floors all have private, infinity pools on their balconies and outdoor romantic soaking tubs.  These are the top suites at the resort and come with pampering butler service.

Butch’s Chophouse

In our week here, we didn’t have quite enough time to try all ten restaurants.  We had a snack our first night in the Tipsy Turtle Pub.  We tried pizza from Dino’s Pizzeria, serving many gourmet and regional varieties, as well as your favorites.  Doggies hot dog stand serves gourmet dogs.  The Café de Paris had many sweet treats, including nutmeg ice cream, for which Grenada is well known.  We ate Japanese Teppanyaki at Kimonos.  We enjoyed lunch at Neptune’s on the beach.  Soy had wonderful sushi and the most amazing tempura you’ll ever try.  Spices serves a revolving themed menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night snacks.  I loved sitting on their breezy terrace.  Le Jardinier serves French cuisine and we really enjoyed the lush hillside view, delicious food and attentive service.  Our favorite was Butch’s Chophouse.  They serve several choice steaks and their service, too, was impeccable.  The only restaurant we didn’t have time to try was Cucina Romana, serving Italian cuisine.

The Living Room

There are several bars at this resort.  The main bar is in the Living Room, next to the main pool.  It is open air and where most of the evening entertainment happens.  There is entertainment every evening, from a simple talent show and sing along on Monday night to an elaborate beach party on Friday night, with a fantastic Spice Island Buffet featuring jerk & creole fare.  Most of the entertainment is done by the resort playmakers and is the only thing I found somewhat lacking.  They have lots of energy and try hard; however the talent is not on a professional level.

The Beach at Sandals LaSource Grenada

The beach is very pretty with a cliff on the left.  The sand is very soft.  There are two jetties which keep the water calm; however it does segment the beach, creating small coves.  There are a few floating rings that you can wade out and lounge on.  On the jetties they have romantic spots for couples right over the ocean.  The beach is not as large as most people expect, but it’s in a lovely spot.

Sandals LaSource Grenada Watersports

To the right of the beach is the watersports area, where they have kayaks, Hobie-cat sail boats, paddle boards and windsurfing.  They also do a glass bottom boat tour and an afternoon snorkeling trip by boat daily.  As I wrote in last week’s article, they also offer Scuba diving.  Their operation is excellent here and one of the best Sandals to get certified and to Scuba dive from.  Grenada boasts the first underwater sculpture park in the Caribbean and has some of the most breathtaking dive sites, including several wreck dives.  Special evening dives can also be arranged at an additional charge.

Tidepools North of Sandals LaSource Grenada

Beyond the watersports area are some tide pools.  It’s a lovely place to explore.  We even saw a small octopus among the rocks.

Jerk & Creole Culinary Fare at the Boonoonoonoos Pool & Beach Party

Grenada is unique, because it’s one of the world’s sole producers of nutmeg.  You can enjoy meals, massages and delicacies made of the byproducts of this well-known spice and many other spices at the resort. The island boasts some of the most exotic flora and fauna. Rum Factory tours are popular to experience the authentic distilling of unique rums.  There is also river tubing and waterfalls.

Although there are a lot of choices at this resort, it is very compact and easy to get around.  The staff was extremely friendly and attentive.

My husband and I thought this resort was fantastic and is now one of our favorite Sandals resorts.
